The Town of Hilliard’s Park and Recreation Department and the FL Department of Health – Nassau are inviting all citizens to participate in its 2019 Walk/Run/Bike Virtual Challenge on the weekend of World Heart Day September 28th-29th.

By participating in this event people from all walks of life will show commitment, courage, empathy and concern in relation to heart health. By making just a few small changes to our lives, every person can reduce our risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as improve our quality of life and set a good example for the next generation.

Participating is simple:

    • Select a challenge to be completed. To make it extra fun do it with family, friends, co-workers or neighbors.
    • Walk, Run or Bike. You can complete it on a safe road, on the trail, on the treadmill, at the gym or on the track (or even at another race)
    • Complete it at your own pace and time yourself – but remember to do this during the weekend of Sept 28-29th.
    • Once you decide to participate, send an email or text to the contact below indicating your name and age and what challenge you plan to complete.

Participants will virtually get together via a FREE app called MapMyWalk available for iOS or Android. When you finish, you can upload and save your workout data and view it both on the app and on the MapMyWalk website. The use of MAPMYWALK is requested but not necessary.

NEXT: Take a screen picture of your results or a picture of yourself holding a paper or available bib, making sure your name, age (optional), and activity completed are legible. After completing the documentation, submit it to the event coordinator Barb Baptista. Share your pictures showing you support and promote “Heart Health”.

The information you provide to us will be posted on the Partnership for A Healthy Nassau Facebook Page and in local community newspapers.

Dr. Eugenia Ngo-Seidel, Director of FL Health Department – Nassau County expressed her hopes that the Department of Health and Hilliard Parks and Recreation Department will also receive a few personal stories of why people accepted the challenge. She shared “A picture and one paragraph will be worth a thousand words in helping us continue to drive actions to encourage heart healthy living across Nassau County”.

Contact: For further information about signing up or to request an event bib that will register you for the challenge, contact Event Coordinator Barb Baptista at 904-753-1258 or email her at Barbara.Baptista@flhealth.gov.
