School Health Program

The School Health Program is a component of the public health system that provides basic health services to public school students in all 67 counties. The goal of school health services is to ensure students are healthy, in school, and ready to learn.

Our services include, but are not limited to:

  • Dental, vision, hearing, scoliosis, and growth and development health screenings
  • Nursing assessments
  • Medication administration
  • Immunizations
  • Student health care development plans
  • Home visits

Additionally, school health registered nurses work closely with school staff and parents to promote healthy behaviors such as maintaining a healthy weight and choosing to be physical active, and reduce risk-taking behaviors such as eliminating the use of tobacco.
