Tuberculosis (TB)

The mission of the Bureau of Tuberculosis is to eliminate tuberculosis as a public health threat in Florida and ensure appropriate public health screenings. Our primary responsibility is tuberculosis control and prevention as listed in Chapter 392 of the Florida Statutes. Our office consists of a highly qualified team of health personnel trained to conduct a community-based tuberculosis control program.


Clinical Services

  • Physician services to diagnose and manage tuberculosis cases.
  • Nursing services providing care and support to TB patients.
  • Testing and laboratory services for accurate diagnosis and monitoring of tuberculosis.

Field Services

Field services are responsible for all outreach activities aimed at screening and identifying persons exposed to TB and for the administration of Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), ensuring patients adhere to their treatment regimens.


Surveillance Services

Public health surveillance is the ongoing, systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data about health-related events. It involves activities such as:

  • Detection: Identifying presumptive TB cases.
  • Reporting: Managing the flow of data and information.
  • Confirmation: Using epidemiological and laboratory tests to verify TB cases.
  • Analysis: Examining and interpreting surveillance data to inform public health action.
