Public Health and Safety

Florida Department of Health in Nassau County Environmental Health

Our mission is to safeguard the well-being of Nassau County residents by ensuring high standards of public health and safety. Explore the sections below to learn more about our efforts and initiatives.

Body Piercing

Body piercing carries the risk of infection and the transmission of bloodborne pathogens like Hepatitis B. The Florida Department of Health provides guidelines to ensure safe body piercing practices, including post-care procedures to minimize risks. Stay informed about potential dangers and how to prevent them.

Food Hygiene

The Florida Department of Health collaborates with food service establishments to ensure their products do not cause foodborne illnesses. This includes overseeing food service operations in various institutional and recreational settings. Standards and regulations are defined in Chapter 64E-11, Florida Administrative Code, ensuring food safety across the state.

Group Care Facilities Program

Our Group Care Facilities Program focuses on the health and safety of residents in various group care settings such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and daycares. We conduct regular inspections and offer guidance on maintaining high standards of hygiene and care to protect vulnerable populations.

Tanning Facilities

Tanning devices expose users to ultraviolet radiation, which can lead to acute injuries and chronic diseases. The Florida Department of Health regulates tanning facilities to minimize these risks and ensures that facilities maintain strict sanitary standards. Facilities must follow stringent guidelines to protect customers and employees.

Tattoo and Body Art

Tattooing practices are regulated under sections 381.00771-381.00791, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 64E-28, Florida Administrative Code. These regulations require tattoo artists and establishments to be licensed and to follow specific educational and operational standards. The Department also oversees sanitation and safety in tattoo establishments to prevent infections and other health risks.
